Sparks Camp Episode 1 Review

sparks camp review

Before anything else, a huge congrats to the team behind this show. I know the Philippines is more accepting compared to other countries, but we're not there YET, if you know what I mean. So, to have this first-ever Queer dating reality show was I think, a significant boost.

Now, regarding the show, the concept which really made me like this was the fact that there's no absolute winner or loser. No one's going home every episode unlike in the others where there's one bachelor/ette, and the contestants need to please that guy or gal.

But... we'll see, even if there's no elimination, someone would still get some form of rejection, I believe. Though, of course, I still hope that everyone will find something that will leave them smiling at the end.

And speaking of those, here are the names of our campers:

Aaron Maniego, 24 - Cainta, Rizal

Stanley Bawalan, 25 - Baguio City

Karl Bautista, 31 - Paranaque City

Justin Macapallag, 21 - Quezon City

Gabe Balita, 23 - Quezon City

Nat Magbitang, 24 - Sta. Rosa City

Bong Gonzales, 23 - Pasig City

Alex De Ungria, 22 - Muntinlupa City

Dan Galman, 24 - Quezon City

Nick Deocampo, 25 - Negros Occidental

Amongst these contestants, the camper who left a mark on me was Alex. I thought his hairstyle was really unique, and his reserved personality was something I found interesting. In a way, I wanna see him open up more to the others as time goes by.

For the couples... the pairs that got me hooked were JustNat (Justin / Nat) and AlBong (Alex / Bong).

After JustNat lost in the challenge, there's a part where Nat was concerned if he hit Justin, and I just thought that was cute:

And AlBong pair was just plain kilig! ('romantic excitement,' according to google translate). I mean, just look at Bong, you can tell he's already achieved his goal.

For my other commentaries...

I like the fact that Gabe didn't feel insecure even though nobody chose him for their first challenge. He was still full of positive vibe and spirit.

Dan was surprisingly competitive... Gigil manalo yarn?:

Aaron was someone you can say a pro in front of the camera. I just feel a bit sad for him, as others seem to have dislikeness towards him. I'm not a fan first of all, by that I mean I'm not one of his followers, so this is not a biased opinion. I think some just mistook his overconfidence as something negative, but for me he's just being true to himself and the people around him.

And another thing, I think Nick ignited a negative spark when he said:

"Sorry, I can't trust a Gemini."

I don't think that was a necessary comment, he's like generalizing all the Gemini as people who cannot be trusted.

Moving on to something positive, whoever thought of the tagline: "Tara? Fun?" / "Tara! Fun!," should be given a raise. That was very witty, seriously.

Lastly, the theme song 'Sa'Yo (Ang Mundo)' by Nameless Kids was simply a fun and cool song to jive with.

Looking forward to episode two!!
