STORY
This was my first Boys' Love series which involved a supernatural genre. So, for me, this has an unusual vibe compared to other BL shows. And since it was different, I honestly lowered my expectations, so that I will not feel much disappointment if ever I decide to drop this.
BUT... oh boy, I was wrong. As I dived into the center of the plot, I found myself hooked on the puzzles, and of course on the developing romance between our two handsome characters -- Phat and Phob.
After watching this series, I realized... unlike other shows or movies which had multiple genres, this was one of those that was able to deliver all forms of emotions properly to its viewers. I've seen a horror mixed with comedy and romance, but what was supposed to be scary didn't feel horrifying at all.
So, props to the writers, director, and everyone else who worked in this show -- they did a splendid job making sure we will get scared, laugh, feel the love, and cry at dramatic scenes. And I mean seriously, it's hard to control your tears when you watch the final scene.
CAST
Plan Thanawat Koosuwan as Phat
Our main character was for me, an introvert. Based on how he interacts and his movements, he wasn't that animated compared to Phat. But, amongst all the cast, I can say he's the bravest. It showed when he confessed everything to his mom, up to the finale when he tried to fight for equality.
Nut Supanut Lourhaphanich as Phob
The cutest ghost character I've seen. You will definitely fall for him every time he pouts, it's his asset. But, he's not all about looks, he surely can act. He's so effective in romantic and dramatic scenes.
The best for me was when he had a private conversation with Dream at the end. He's smiling and quite looked worried when he asked her to take care of Phob. After that, he then turned around... and it's when he just cried everything out -- that scene for me deserved an award.
Green Phongsathorn Padungktiwong as Ben
The best supporting actor in the series. He only appeared in three episodes I think, but his performance in episodes 5 and 6 was top-notch. It is when I felt the excellence of the writers as well because they truly maximized Green's potential as an actor.
Took Chanokwanun Rakcheep as Chris
I'll be honest here, at first I thought she's Phat's older sister. She looked so young... As for her character, she embodies what a modern mother should be -- loving and accepting. And her reaction to Phat having a ghost boyfriend was spot on.
Phiao Duangjai Hiransri as Aunt Nuan
A great actress, let me start with that. She will really make you dislike her from the beginning, and that's a good thing 'cause it meant she lived up to her role. Although she's not really a villain, there's no antagonist here, to be honest. You'll understand once you finished the series.
Faii Sumitta Duangkaew as Dream
A very supportive friend of Phat. She's one heck of a character as well. I mean, she got powers (that hair flip in episode 2)! She's probably a psychic medium. It's also because of her, Phat was able to see Phob. So yea, we owe her big time.
Another character I want to give props to was Uncle Nong, the guardian spirit of the house. I cannot find the actor who played him, but all I can say was he did a great job playing the role of a supportive father to Phob.
WRITING
About the supernatural aspect of the show, I liked how they explained that a dream is a place between the spirit world and the living. Because I actually believe that. I do think I've experienced something like that before.
Regarding the episodes with the best writing... it's episodes 5, 6, and 10 for me. Both episodes that featured the story of Ben were beyond excellent. And the finale had such a replay factor, although... it makes me cry every time (seriously).
Just an addition to episode 6... its ending was so done well. It didn't require a lot of lines, just actions that will make you feel the drama surrounding the scene.
TECHNICALITIES
I'm in love with the background music that has male vocals. Hopefully, I can find that track, it's just so soothing. The rest of the music was good as well. And the sound editing made the scenes work, especially in the scary parts.
I also applaud the Hair and Makeup team. They did great, especially in the look for the spirits.
Lastly, the ending song ทำได้แค่ฝัน (Just like a Dream) was performed by our ghost Supanut (Phob). And the beautiful ballad, used as an insert song -- อยู่ด้วยกัน (Never Apart) was sung by Plankoo (Phat).
WATCH OR SKIP?
VERDICT: Watch THIS! The cast in this show was just excellent. All the actors were so amazing in their given roles. Make sure to recommend this show to your friends as well. And btw, there's an uncut (premium) version of this show on the channel of the official broadcaster, check it out.
Notable Quotes
Phob: I'm a ghost that lives here and entertainment for ghosts like me is very limited. So, looking at you is one of them.
Phat: Shit! That means you've seen everything!
Phat: Do you understand privacy?
Phob: Then, to be fair, I'll show you mine.
Phob: I think... people are scarier than ghosts.
Phob: You let me do what I love, so, I'm letting you do something you love too.
Ben: Tell me what you don't like, so I can change.
Phob: You've already changed a lot Ben, maybe even too much.
Phob (to Ben): Being your true self is the best.
Auntie Nuan: Everything on this earth has its time, and everything is entangled with time. And if we, know the secrets of time, what would happen?
Phob: I and Ben have been over for a long time. We have nothing anymore.
Phat: But...
Phob: Don't overthink it, I only have you now.
Phob (to Phat): I think I've found what I like. First is designing clothes as Ben said. And another thing is, I think I like you.
Phat: Aren't you going to be surprised? I have a boyfriend.
Chris: What century is this Phat? You think I can't accept it? Whether you're gay, bi or pan, or any other, it's not strange at all.
Phob: You're my boyfriend now Phat.
Phat: No. You're my boyfriend now.
Phat: Trying to forget you is harder than trying to remember you.
Phat: I'm sorry that I couldn't make your dreams come true. Even to this age, unfairness still exists. I tried to fight it, but I can only hope that the next generation will continue this fight. Someday, it might come true.
